Liz and the Lovelies, the band led by singer/songwriter Liz Chidester, will release their first EP Progress into Simplicity on March 7th, 2017. With production courtesy of musician Matt Griffo and the band Frances Luke Accord’ s Nicholas Gunty, the concept EP delicately weaves organic and electronic sounds. This will be the third Chicago release for Liz Chidester, who is originally from the mountains of Virginia. Moving to Chicago by train with four bags and two guitars in the winter of 2013, Chidester immersed herself in the local music scene, releasing her debut album People Pumping Pedals in 2014 via CAU Dog Records. In 2015, she released the EP Otter Hill, an intimate recording of five songs about her family and home life in Virginia. She has received recognition from NPR’s Newsong Songwriting Competition (as the 2014 Midwest Finalist), a Chicago Music Awards “Best Female Vocalist” nominee in 2015, and she was a New-Song Songwriter Competition Finalist in 2016. Her music has inspired close friends and family members to create the electronic folk group Liz and the Lovelies. The Lovelies are Alex Chidester (vocals, mandolin), Lewis Rawlinson (vocals, cello), Ivan Pyzow (vocals, synths, trumpet), Zach Finch (drums), and Mike Fletcher (bass). Liz Chidester lives in Chicago, where she is a teaching artist at the Old Town School of Folk Music and the Chicago Children’s Theatre.
