CAU is proud to announce that work is progressing on Last Chance, the debut album from one of CAU’s newest recording artists, Jeff Brown, lead guitarist and accordion player for Goodbyehome. A singer-songwriter in his own right, Brown has been in the studio with Ellis Clark recording a collection of genre-bending songs ranging from delicate indie folk to Ted Leo-esque alt-rock and even a diversion or two into jazz.
Brown has spent the past few years putting together a group of musicians, dubbed “The Jeff Brown Extra Large Trio”, including current and former Goodbyehome members and friends Christine Knodle (violin), Jim Lordeman (drums), and Mike Narvaez (bass), which feature prominently on the album, as well as a guest appearance on tenor saxophone by Mars Williams (Psychedelic Furs, Liquid Soul), and a number of additional special guests. Early indications upon listening to a handful of initial mixes are that this album is going to be something very special. “The idea for this record was to strip away a lot of heavy production and effect to the point where it feels more like my friends and I are sitting in your living room, playing you a song than something complex and dazzling from Sony or Epic,” says Brown of the more intimate nature of both his songs and the release.
No stranger to writing and performing music, Jeff has been crafting and perfecting several of these songs for years, but until being approached by CAU had not had the ability to commercially release any works of his own. “I’m incredibly anxious and thankful to finally be in a place where I can release a proper album, and not just a collection of mp3s haphazardly recorded on my couch,” says Brown. CAU is anxious to introduce Jeff Brown’s Last Chance to the world as well. Look for a release in April of 2012.
