HEADLINERS

The Lauren Wolf Band

Though “Rise Up” is The Lauren Wolf Band’s second full-length album, it is their first full-band collaboration. Comprised of 10 originals and one cover, “Rise Up” is a departure from the band’s first album, “All My Secrets”. This time around, each band member has contributed to every track. While the debut album was primarily Lauren’s story, “Rise Up” is a collection of what this band family has become.

It takes many bands years of performing in front of live audiences and rehearsing privately until they can figure out their sound and who they really are. “Rise Up” is the result. Marrying the powerhouse vocals of classic rock artists like Janis Joplin with the rock/blues guitar licks of Jimi Hendrix, the band pays homage to yesterday’s greats while creating a new sound all to their own.

“All My Secrets” was recorded in Los Angeles at Capitol Studios with a Grammy-winning producer. “Rise Up” brings the band back to Chicago with a different line of thinking: allowing the album to authentically capture their high stage energy and true live sound.

After signing to the indie record label CAU Dog Records in 2014, executive producer Michael Teach and producer Ellis Clark agreed that the band’s live sound is what sets them apart.

Many songs on the radio today need heavy studio production and the artists aren’t nearly as impressive live – or large light shows and lasers need to make up for the lacking live sound that can only be created in a studio. CAU Dog Records shares The Lauren Wolf Band’s vision for creating an honest album that’s true to the artist without overproducing it and doctoring it beyond who the musicians actually are.

Ranging from classic rock to soul, blues, pop and beyond, each track on “Rise Up” includes a hint of every band member’s musical flair. Through a catchy chorus and memorable attitude, the single “Run Daddy Run” emotes the mix of classic rock with a quirky 1960s soul vibe. The single is also used for the band’s second official music video, which time warps between two different decades to show the good and evil in all of us.

Other notable tracks include the empowering “Rise Up,” which can best be described as an industrial swamp tune. An epic rock symphony of sorts, “The Night the Sound Went Out” is a true band story and is the only duet on the album. While guitarist Patrick Dugan is also heard on that track for his vocals, his guitar is featured in his self-written “Space Wolf” as the band’s only instrumental. “Home to Me” is one of the first tunes written for the album and it is a bluesy rock ballad that cuts straight to the heart.

The Lauren Wolf Band is the 2012 national winner of the Live Nation Battle of the Bands. The band has played the stages of iconic venues including the House of Blues, City Winery, Lincoln Hall, The Metro, Mayne Stage and many more along with festivals such as Northalsted Market Days and venues throughout the country.  FACEBOOK

Greg Jackson Combs

Every great story starts somewhere….

Greg Jackson Combs has become an influential writer/performer in the ever prolific Chicago music scene since his first performances and tours began based out of the windy city in 2006. Combs is best known for his work with Chicago Folk Rock group: “Goodbyehome”. The band has released two records with independent record label CAUDog Records, with much critical acclaim.

His music has brought him across the country to perform in historic venues from  legendary Nashville club “The Basement” to the infamous “Hotel Cafe” in Los Angeles, as well as opening for such notable acts like Edward Sharp and the Magenetic Zeroes, Grace Potter, Dr. Dog and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, All before he even hit the ripe age of thirty.

Combs represents an honesty and authenticity as a songwriter and performer that just does not exist in modern pop-music today. Drawing main influence from the 60’s and 70’s songwriting greats such as Dylan, Lightfoot, Chapin, Townes, Gilmore and Young. Performers of his caliber just don’t exist today, making what he does, truly unique and remarkable. A overall message of hope and the power of positive thinking are a predominant subject of his music.

Barrett’s Hidden Agenda EP RELEASE SHOW

We make music, in part, so we can see each other often. We write music we’d like to hear, and enjoy playing. We hope you get something out of it, too. Hannah Frank Group

Hannah Frank paves new roads in folk/rock music with poetic words that give you an escape from the everyday as she tells stories and rhymes up a storm– all with a sultry honey-meets-barbed-wire voice. Her band Hannah Frank Group’s 4-song LIVE EP has been heard on WDCB 90.9FM “American Backroads” and WFMT 98.7FM “Sweet Folk Chicago”.

Midwestern, but never pedestrian, her rural influences ignite like the energy of hardcore blues artists. While residing in Chicagoland neighborhoods, she’s soaked up the rambunctious culture of the streets with vibrancy of world music and jazz. Her straightforward storytelling is similar to wordsmiths like Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, but you can also hear soulful, scorching torch vocals akin to Laura Nyro, a young Aretha Franklin and/or Bonnie Raitt (depending on how much you’ve had to drink).

After gaining a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Hannah helped develop two major songwriter events in Chicago, Chicago Acoustic Underground (Podcast and Record Label) “Singing for Your Supper” Songwriter Showcase, as well as Songwriter Showcases at Strobe Recording Studio in Humboldt Park. Supporting songwriters and the original music scene is part of the game plan. The group, with rotating members, appears in an electric format for this special House of Blues show.
